There are so many different services today. There are entertainment, cloud storage, software and business coaching services and many more available. I cannot afford to purchase every one of them. Especially if I’m not positive I’m truly going to enjoy or find the service useful.
If there’s a particular service I want to sign up for, I always check to see if there’s a few trial available first. This allows me to try the service without spending any money. Sometimes, I’ve really enjoyed the service (Amazon Prime!) and other times, I haven’t.
I follow pretty much the same process every time I sign up for a new trial now. I haven’t always had the same system but since implementing it, I’ve been more organized with free trials. This has saved me time, money and energy.
I always read the fine print before signing up for free trials.
I may be a little bit bitter about the one time I didn’t and royally regretted it to the tune of $100! I now know exactly what I’m signing up for and the terms. I refuse to sign up for services that don’t provide a clear and easy cancellation route.
I don’t sign up for free trials on services I don’t really want to try.
There was a time where I would sign up for anything and everything that was free. I highly suggest you DON’T do that. Only try services you would honestly considering purchasing. Anything else is a waste of your time.
I make a note in my calendar.
Two days before my trial is over, I make a note in my calendar to remind me to cancel if needed. I don’t always decide to cancel but I want to make sure I have the option if I want it. I include directions on how to cancel and any other information I will need directly on the note.
Sometimes, I’ve found that certain services aren’t a good fit for my life right now but might be in the future. Those services go into a list in Evernote with a mini review. This allows me to better gauge whether or not I want to sign up in the future.
By following these simple steps, I’ve made the process of signing up for trials much easier on myself. Instead of stressing about canceling by the due date, I can now focus on trying out the service and learning if it will fit into my life. I’ve found several great services and software by utilizing free trials and I look forward to finding more!
Do you sign up for free trials? Which ones have you enjoyed the most?
